CitiPower has paid $406,824 in penalties for allegedly failing to notify customers of planned power interruptions
CitiPower Pty Ltd penalty notices 2023
CitiPower Pty Ltd has paid a total of $406,824 in penalties after we issued 11 penalty notices on 27 October 2023. We issued the penalties to CitiPower for allegedly failing to notify customers of two planned interruptions between January and March 2023.
The Energy Distribution Code of Practice requires distributors to provide customers with at least four business days written notice of a planned interruption. CitiPower allegedly breached the rules by failing to provide any notice to 43 customers, including a customer registered with CitiPower as requiring life support equipment.
Protections for Victorian customers who require life support equipment are amongst the most critically important obligations that the commission administers. When distributors delay giving life support customers the required information and advice, it results in life support customers not receiving potentially life-saving information to assist in planning for interruptions and may cause unnecessary risk to non-life support customers.
