Maximum Energy Retail Pty Ltd customer transfer following retail market suspension
02 August 2024
The Australian Energy Regulator (AER) has initiated the retailer of last resort process to allow for the transfer of Victorian customers from failed electricity retailer Maximum Energy Retail Pty Ltd (ACN 632 900 139) to other retailers to provide for the continued supply and sale of essential electricity services.
A link to the AER’s website can be found here for further information.
The AER assumed responsibility for retailer of last resort arrangements in Victoria on 30 July 2024 under the National Energy Retail Law (Victoria) Act 2024. The retailer of last resort arrangements are designed to ensure that in the event of a retailer failing, customers continue to receive electricity supply.
Affected customers will be allocated to designated retailers of last resort. These are either AGL, Origin Energy or EnergyAustralia depending on a customer’s location. Customers will be contacted directly by AGL, Origin Energy or EnergyAustralia with information about the new arrangements including options for ongoing supply and who to contact for more information. Customers can change this arrangement at any time. They can choose a new retailer that services their area, or choose to enter a new contract with AGL, Origin Energy or EnergyAustralia.
Customers requiring life support equipment are advised to confirm their requirements with their new retailer as soon as possible.
Customers who were receiving payment assistance from Maximum Energy Retail Pty Ltd are encouraged to discuss payment assistance options with their new retailer if they are having trouble paying their energy bills.
