AGL shortfall statements 2018
In August 2018, we issued AGL Sales Pty Limited and AGL Sales (Queensland Electricity) Pty Limited with Victorian energy efficiency certificate shortfall statements that require these companies to pay $2,991,621 in penalties. AGL Sales Pty Limited paid $1,314,887.68 in penalties, while AGL Sales (Queensland Electricity) Pty Limited paid $1,676,734.08.
The two AGL businesses paid these penalties because they failed to surrender 64,033 Victorian energy efficiency certificates.
Under the Victorian Energy Upgrades program (also known as the Victorian Energy Efficiency Target scheme), energy retailers must surrender certificates in proportion to the volume of electricity and gas they sell to Victorian customers.
